Samsung introduces new naming structure for Galaxy smartphones describing target markets and features, along with four new handsets
Samsung has announced a new naming strategy four new devices for its Galaxy handset range.
The new devices are the Galaxy M Pro, Galaxy W, Galaxy Y and Galaxy Y Pro. All will run Android 2.3, and are named in line with the firm’s new naming strategy.
The firm said from now on new Samsung Galaxy models will come with a designation of either S standing for its top-end “Super” devices, R standing for premium “Royal” models, W standing for “Wonder”, M standing for “Magical” or, at the lowest end, Y, standing for “Young”.
In addition the firm will add three extra indicators: “Pro” for devices with a QWERT keyboard, Plus indicating an upgraded model of a previously released handset, and LTE, indicating that the device is compatible with next-generation Long Term Evolution (LTE) high-speed data networks.
Samsung UK and Ireland Mobile managing director Simon Stanford (pictured) said: “As we continue to expand our successful portfolio of Galaxy Family Android devices, we have introduced steps to ensure these products are easier for customers to identify.
“The announcements of Galaxy M Pro, Galaxy W, Galaxy Y and Galaxy Y Pro will build on the success of the Samsung Galaxy range of smartphones adding yet more choices for consumers whether they want a top end smartphone or one with more basic functionality – our aim is to have a product that’s right for them.”
