Motorola launches JCB-branded Defy+

Motorola launches JCB Edition Defy+ aimed at engineering and construction workers, following deal with distributor Data Select

Motorola has launched a limited edition JCB-branded version of the Defy+ with a special protective casing and apps designed for use by workers in construction and engineering.

The handset, called the Defy+ , is the result of a partnership between Motorola, JCB and distributor Data Select, reported by Mobile News in August.

It has a JCB-branded “visco-elastic” protective sleeve designed to make the device “work proof”.

The JCB Edition also comes with pre-installed JCB apps including a spirit level, a DIY shop finder, a unit converter and a decibel meter and recorder.

A car charger is bundled with the device.

The JCB Edition shares the 1GHz processor, 3.7-inch Gorilla Glass screen and 5 megapixel camera found on the original Defy+, which was launched in September last year.

Like the Defy+, it runs Android Gingerbread 2.3.

The Defy+ JCB Edition will cost £259.99 and is available from today (January 17).

Motorola Mobility UK marketing director Victoria McManus said: “We’re thrilled to be working with JCB on this bespoke Motorola Defy+ device.

“The unique protective sleeve will pull on JCB’s years of expertise in the construction industry to help us reach a new audience who we know are in need of a life and work proof handset.”

Data Select marketing director Jason Kemp said: “The Motorola Defy+ JCB Edition is the perfect extension of an already robust handset.

“Smartphone use is on the rise amongst construction audiences and this handset perfectly addresses their workday needs.”
