Bluetooth device shipments expected to surpass 5.3 billion this year

Shipments of Bluetooth devices could exceed 5.3 billion units in this year and approach nearly eight billion by 2029, according to  the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) market update.

This growth is attributed to advancements in Bluetooth technology, such as Bluetooth Channel Sounding , Auracast and Bluetooth Channel Sounding, a precise ranging feature.

Auracast allows one device to broadcast high-quality audio to multiple other devices without needing to pair individually.

Shipments of single-mode Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) devices are expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate  of 22 per cent. By 2028, single-mode Bluetooth LE shipments are anticipated to match those of Bluetooth Dual-Mode device.

However, single-mode Bluetooth Classic is in decline, with shipments forecasted to fall 14 per per cent, as the market transitions toward the Bluetooth LE standard.

This shift underscores Bluetooth’s evolution—from a wireless audio solution into a foundational technology powering a more connected, sustainable, and intelligent world.

2024 saw Bluetooth reach several significant milestones, including increased real-world deployments of Auracast broadcast audio in public venues and the release of Bluetooth Channel Sounding, a secure, fine-ranging feature that enhances convenience, safety, and security,” said Neville Meijers, CEO of the Bluetooth SIG.
