The retailer announced today that tablet sales have increased by 75 per cent since it cut prices as part of its Christmas offering

Carphone Warehouse last week broke its sales record for tablets, thanks to price cuts made earlier this month.

The retailer had said on November 7 it wanted to offer the lowest prices for tablets on the high street.

It cut the price of a Samsung Tab 2 to £149, compared with £199.99 elsewhere. The iPad 3 16GB Wi-Fi is on offer for £359, down from £399 and Carphone is selling the Nexus 32GB for £189, compared with £199.99 in other shops.

Carphone chief commercial officer Graham Stapleton said last week it sold 175 per cent the number of tablets than their next most successful week – Christmas week last year.

“The Christmas shopping season has hit early; customers are snapping up our cut-price tablet devices in huge numbers and setting new records.

“Desktop PC sales have been in decline for years and the tablet market has only gone from strength to strength. We know that our customer’s needs are continually changing and consuming media on the go has become increasingly popular,” said Stapleton.
