Increased device usage in lockdown prompts response to growing cyber threat

Online retailer Chitter Chatter is in discussions to preload devices it sells to be used by children with cybersecurity software from SafeToNet as part of a partnership between the two companies.

The two companies confirmed that discussions were underway to make such a step a possibility, as they announced a promotional partnership.

Additionally, the partnership may see Chitter Chatter sell SafeToNet software on its website.

As a result of the collaboration, Chitter Chatter is promoting SafeToNet through blog posts and newsletters. Chief among the company’s initiatives is its free-for-life licences offer.

This offer sees SafetoNet offering up to one million free-for-life licences to UK families to safeguard their children’s online security, as device usage has risen since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Parents have until midnight on September 15 to register their details to be eligible for free software, and until September 30 to activate the SafeToNet app on their smartphone or tablet.

“With this collaboration, we hope to ensure that children are protected from online harms, whilst staying connected to their friends and family,” said SafeToNet CEO Richard Pursey.

“To have Chitter Chatter on board and putting child safety at the forefront is an important and welcomed move, and we encourage other mobile companies to follow suit.”

Chitter Chatter’s sales and marketing director James Francis added: “We aim to help as many families as possible stay connected and look after what’s important, and this partnership supports that mission in helping protect children online.”
