Lycamobile sets up ‘Down Under’ with Telstra

Ethnic market MVNO launches in 10th market with aim to hit 20 million prepay customers globally by 2012

Ethnic market MVNO Lycamobile has launched in its 10th market following its debut in Australia, running off a GSM wholesale deal with Telstra.

The move will see the company offer prepay SIM cards and international calling offers, including to key destinations like India, China, South Africa and New Zealand.

Lycamobile said the move is in line with its ambition to serve 20 million customers by 2012.

Lycamobile chief executive Milind Kangle (pictured) said: “We are delighted to partner with Telstra Wholesale, whose 2GSM network reaches over 96 per cent of the Australian population.”

Telstra Wholesale group managing director Paul Geason said the deal showed it ready to respond to the MVNO trend that has “swept” Europe and Asia.

“Telstra Wholesale has worked with Lycamobile to develop a solution that gives them greater flexibility in offering their prepaid service to the Australian market,” he said.
