GK joins the T-Mobile stable, more in wings

Midland Communications reckons for a September 1 start with T-Mobile, Mainline remains hopeful also, and SIM distributor GK Telecom signs up as fully fledged agent alongside HSC

SIM distributor GK Telecom has been granted official distributor status by T-Mobile after a successful trial. It joins HSC as a certified distribution partner.

Orange distributor Midland Communications, meanwhile, said it expects to start connecting T-Mobile on September 1.

GK Telecom also resells Three airtime. Midland Distribution, part-owned by Orange and to-date an Orange connector only, stands to gain the new deal following Orange and T-Mobile’s ‘Everything Everywhere’ joint venture in the UK.

Mainline Digital Communications, of the same profile as Midland Distribution, is likely to agree terms with T-Mobile’s indirect sales team soon, although nothing was signed as Mobile News went to press.

GK Telecom made its first T-Mobile sales at the end of July and a number of dealer forms have been submitted to T-Mobile for approval. Stock from the network arrived at its offices on August 11. T-Mobile training has also been booked for GK Telecom’s larger dealers.

GK Telecom network director Debbie Young said: “This has been communicated to all of our dealers of which 40 are actively trading, but not all of them will connect T-Mobile as some don’t necessarily fit the criteria.

“Therefore around half of them will become active T-Mobile dealers in the next couple of months. In the meantime we’re looking to grow that number to bring more dealers on board to connect T-Mobile.

“We have our own target, which is 500 new connections a month and we want to achieve that as fast as we possibly can with quality business. It’s a massive relief to get started and we just want to motor along now.”

T-Mobile UK sales manager for independent partners John Fannon (pictured) said: “We’re delighted to welcome GK Telecom on board as a fully certified T-Mobile distributor and look forward to the opportunities it brings us with voice and data sales.”

Meanwhile, Midland Distribution sales manager Peter Liley said: “We’re aiming for a September 1 launch selling T-Mobile airtime and we’re pretty confident that we can achieve that. We’re looking to have 50 of our 200-odd dealers selling T-Mobile on this date. We’ll look to get more dealers on board as soon as possible.”

Mainline Digital Communications managing director Andrew Boden said: “We’re currently in discussions with T-Mobile regarding a launch date but we won’t start anything until we’re sure we’re ready to. We’re very confident this will be up and running very soon.”
