France Telecom has appointed deputy chief executive of international operations Stéphane Richard as deputy chief executive.
Richard replaces current deputy chief executive Louis-Pierre Wenes, who last week asked chief executive Didier Lombard to relieve him of his responsibilities.
A statement from France Telecom said Didier Lombard has accepted this request and thanked Wenes for his contributions to the company since December 2002.
Richard is due to take over Lombard’s position upon his scheduled retirement in 2011.
Lombard has faced calls for his resignation from French trade unions following last week’s employee suicide, the 24th in the company since February 2008.
